The Lessons Pageantry Has Taught Me 👑
By Montanna Cancellier – Junior Teen Australia Regency 2026
For as long as I can remember, I have competed in pageants.
I entered my first glitz pageant when I was just a couple of months old! I always knew I loved competing, but what I did not know was how many life lessons pageants could teach me. ✨
Confidence to Keep Going
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is confidence.
Pageants taught me to keep going, no matter how nervous I feel. They taught me to hold my head high, pull my shoulders back, step out with a smile, and believe in myself.
Mistakes Help Us Grow 💜
Another important lesson is that it is okay to make a mistake.
Everyone makes mistakes at some point. What matters most is how you pick yourself up and carry on.
Some of the most useful feedback I have received during my time competing came from moments when I made a mistake. That is how we learn, improve, and grow.
Presentation and First Impressions
Pageantry has also taught me the importance of presentation and making a lasting first impression.
The way we carry ourselves, speak to others, and show respect matters both on and off the stage.
Kindness, Respect, and Support
Through pageantry, I have learned to be respectful and kind, compassionate and supportive, encouraging and uplifting.
These qualities are just as important as confidence because pageantry is not only about how you perform—it is also about how you treat people.
Hard Work Matters
I have also learned that hard work matters. Practice matters. Goal setting matters.
But most importantly, people matter.
All people matter, and pageant queens around the world are here to help spread that message.
The lessons I have learned through pageantry will stay with me far beyond the stage. 👑💜
